I came across this post by accident while googling for something. Glad I read this because I was conversing with some colleagues about this recently. You hit the nail on the head. And sadly, your point of view will be regarded as "evil" by many Blacks because unfortunately, the mental conditioning runs so so so deep. I had one person to tell me that because someone is not a Christian, be it a Muslim, Buddhist, etc., then they are doomed to hell.

That's a question I've talked about with friends who are black on a couple of occasions. When I tell my college students how the Bible was used to justify slavery, both in the actual verses you quoted and then the whole "Curse of Ham" story, you can sometimes actually watch their minds expand.

I think the other appealing thing about Christianity, and this is an across-the-board thing, is the promise that while things are terrible now, a better reward awaits. Marx's old Opiate of the Masses bit. You suffer here on Earth, and you let yourself get beaten physically and emotionally, and you put up with all the garbage, because the more blows that this old world rains down on you, the greater your reward after death. The entire 'struggle' metaphor resonates pretty strongly, I'd imagine.
